My mom and I are puzzle freaks. You can find us on the couch with a word search puzzle book in each of our hands. It was fun for us. It was our bonding time.
I was able to review two puzzle books from Puzzle Baron – Puzzle Baron’s Sudoku and Puzzle Baron’s Logic Puzzles, Volume 2. When I first glanced through the pages of each book, I was a little intimidated. I thought, “can I really solve these puzzles?”. The puzzles I mastered previously were just simple word search and crossword puzzles. These were complicated. Keyword: were.
Included in these books are puzzles ranging from beginner to expert level. I knew I wanted to start at the easiest level. I actually let one of my good friends try out the Sudoku puzzles, while I delved into the Logic Puzzles. We were actually having a blast together, just solving puzzles! This is great brain exercise!
Puzzle Baron’s Sudoku Puzzle Book includes 400 puzzles! WOW! That’s a LOT! The book starts out really easy then it turns into a brain explosion waiting to happen. The first 24 puzzles are quite simple. This is great if you’re just starting out with Sudoku or if you’re wanting a quick warm-up for the later, more challenging puzzles. Puzzles 25-100 are of medium difficulty. My friend was able to breeze through the first 25 without a cinch. She even made in through most of the medium level with only a few minor hiccups here and there. She hasn’t solved any of the puzzles after that, but I let her keep the book so she can finish. Puzzles 101-250 are hard level puzzles, and puzzles 251-400 are extremely hard!
Like I stated earlier, I gave the Logic Puzzles, Volume 2 a whirl. I love my brain being challenged, as I want to maintain my mental prowess even when I age. For those who are unfamiliar with logic puzzles, they are puzzles that require logical deduction. There are hundreds, more than likely thousands, different types of logic puzzles. In this book, you will find logic grid puzzles. What makes logic puzzles unique is that they include a back story that sets up the parameters of the puzzle. It tells the solver the whats, whens, whos and hows of the puzzle. The puzzle then asks the solver to figure out the relationship between the 3-5 different categories of objects and descriptors. I’ve solved quite a few already, and I’m well on my way to solving more!
I also reviewed The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Picture Puzzles, Volume 2. It includes 100 brand spankin’ new puzzles that will challenge everyone! This book also has puzzles that range from beginner to expert. I really like that each of the photos included are in color. They’re quite vivid. I had so much fun spotting out the differences between the two photos! There are 20 unscramble-the-picture and choose-which-one-is-different puzzles. There is even a helpful answer key for you to see just how well (or not) you did! They even offer hints to guide you into solving each of the puzzles.
If you or someone special in your life has a knack for solving puzzles, why not purchase one or all of these books? You can solve these puzzles on a plane, on the toilet, relaxing on the couch or even during labor! Don’t laugh! I did it! 😛
Or…you can try to win all three!!!! This would be an AWESOME Father’s Day gift!
