My Top 5 Must-Have Nursery Items + Giveaway!

Putting together your baby’s nursery is one of the perks of being pregnant. Seriously? How cute can baby blankets, mobiles, and wall art be?! I could spend hours (who am I kidding? DAY!!) looking at products and furniture for my little bundle of love. While stuff for the baby’s nursery is surely adorable, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. You have so many advertisements and word of mouth recommendations coming your way that you find your head spinning. Rest easy…cause this must-have list is truly what you…well…must have!

1. Disney’s Lullaby Album Volume 2 – When my daughter was a baby, she was lulled to sleep quite easily by the sound of my singing and by hearing lullabies from my favorite Disney movies. I remember singing “Bella Notte” to her, and with new mommy hormones coursing through my  veins…I cried every time. Lullabies have such a powerful impact on not only babies but mothers too.

This CD features Disney classics like Chim Chim Cher-ee from Mary Poppins, You’ll Be in My Heart from Tarzan, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King.

2. Glider and Ottoman Set – Trust me, you’re going to want a glider or a rocking chair, and preferably in the nursery. Babies love to be rocked, whether they’re sleeping, eating or just wanting to be held by mommy or daddy. Make sure that you get a glider that looks and feels comfortable, especially the first two weeks after delivery. You’re going to be sore no matter if you deliver vaginally or via c-section. The more give in the cushion, the better.

3. Changing Table – You do not want to change your baby on your bed. I repeat. You do NOT want to change your baby on your bed. Diaper changes get messy at least 50% of the time, whether it’s poop, pee or spit up. A changing table is the best choice! This one from Delta Children is only $95 and even comes with storage space underneath for diapers, wipes, lotions and creams.

4. Swaddling Blankets – Babies adore being swaddled, as it reminds them of their time in their mother’s womb. Swaddling blankets are the next best thing to the womb, so make sure you grab a few before your baby is born. Swaddling can be somewhat tricky, so educate yourself via YouTube or purchase a swaddling blanket that has a hook and loop attachment, like the one from Summer Infant.

5. Levana Ovia 2 Camera Video Monitor – Safety is of utmost importance in my household. When Bella was born, all I had was a monitor that resembled a walkie-talkie. Oh, how I wished I had something like the Levana Ovia 2 Camera Video Monitor. While this is geared towards keeping an eye on babies, I also find it useful for older children, to make sure all is well while they’re playing in their room.

The Levana Ovia 2 Camera Video Monitor includes a 4.3″ LCD screen, 2 remote-controlled cameras, battery, memory card and three adapters.

This video monitor is more than I could have ever imagined. The cameras are operated my remote control and can quietly pan, zoom, and tilt up to 270° horizontally and 110° vertically. The camera gets up close with 2x zoom, which is perfect for checking on baby’s face while they’re snoozing.

In addition to the remote-controlled camera, you can even record videos and take photos! The micro SD card, included with purchase, stores all of the videos and photos until you dump them onto your computer via a SD adapter. This allows precious memories to be captured that would have otherwise gone undocumented.

Since a fully-charged Ovia monitor has an 8-hour battery life in PEEP mode, you don’t have to find time in your already busy day or peaceful night to charge it! The screen will turn off, but when your baby makes a noise, it’ll light back up.

Another thing that worried me was if the monitor would work when I’m outside of my house. I was cleaning my car out, but placed my Ovia monitor on my dashboard in case my daughter needed me. Thanks to the secure 750ft ClearVu digital signal, I didn’t have to worry about signal loss or wireless interference. That especially gives me a peace of mind when baby #2 comes along.

Another feature that I love to utilize is the Talk to Baby 2-way intercom. Imagine doing the dishes or cooking up a meal for the family, and hearing your baby starting to wake. Instead of stopping what you’re doing, you can talk or sing to baby to let him know that it’s alright and you’ll be there soon.

I found that this works WONDERFULLY for older children. I’m able to tell my daughter that dinner is ready or if she needs to help with laundry instead of going up and down a flight of stairs or yelling.

Now that I know my daughter is safe in her room while playing, I can spend more time on myself while keeping an eye on the monitor. It also helps that my daughter’s room is right next to mine! What do I plan to do with my free time? I will probably paint my nails, catch up on blog posts, and perhaps even watch a TV show!
