About Little Green Books

This new series of books will get little ones excited about going green. From recycling and replanting to creating an awareness of endangered animals and much more, Little Green Books plant the seeds for earth-friendly living at an early age. Each book in this environmentally friendly line is made from recycled materials – proving our commitment to this worthy cause.
Little Green Books is a new eco-friendly series from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing Division. As our mission statement above explains, each book in this series will be devoted to educating children about the benefits of being green.
Little Green Books will cover a variety of subjects, teaching children about the dangers of global warming, the benefits of recycling, what they can do to help endangered animals, and much more. In I Can Save The Earth!, children can follow Max the Little Green Monster on his journey as he goes from being a litterbug to loving the earth. And in The Polar Bears’ Home, children can learn about the polar bears’ habitat and how it has become a victim of global warming. On a lighter note, The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle details the journey of a plastic bottle, from a blob of crude oil to a plastic bottle to a fleece sweatshirt! Told in diary form, this humorous tale is sure to give readers a laugh while stressing the significance of the recycling process.

In our storybooks we also include a glossary of terms so that parents and children can learn them together. So if you don’t know what “postconsumer” means or what “compost” is, don’t worry! Our books provide definitions so that your green vocabulary will grow along with your awareness. If you’re already devoted to living green, these books will be a welcome addition to your child’s library. And for those of you who aren’t totally green yet, you’ll still find these stories entertaining and educational.
What sets our books apart from other “green” books is that in addition to the themes, the manufacturing of these books is also environmentally friendly. Our books are printed on recycled materials with vegetable or soy inks. This initiative will continue as the series progresses, from storybooks to cloth books to novelty board books. A unique, innovative new series, Little Green Books plant the seeds of eco-friendly consciousness at an early age so that we can grow a generation of earth-friendly readers.

For my review, I received three beautifully illustrated books from Little Green Books. My daughter loves for me to read to her, and I couldn’t wait to read these three books. One of the books that I got was I Can Save The Ocean by Alison Inches. This cute little book includes a green monster named Max. He encounters lots of different sea creatures, but he also discovers littering.
Max the Little Green Monster is a cute, furry green monster that loves the outdoors (especially the beach), but Max and his friends don’t like cleaning up after themselves! After a picnic on the shore, they leave a big mess behind and go scuba diving. Max is excited to meet lots of new ocean-swimming friends from crabs to colorful fish to an ink-squirting squid, but along the way he learns how his carelessness and littering may have harmed the beautiful ocean. The Little Green Monster then goes on a quest to clean and protect the beach and finds out what it means to be environmentally green.
This book is recommended for ages 4-6.

I also received What Do You See? by Stephen Krensky, a lift-the-flap book about endangered animals. My daughter LOVED lifting the flaps to see what was hiding beneath! She really seemed to enjoy this book!
Stephen Krensky’s clever rhyming text entices young readers to guess which endangered species is hiding beneath each flap! From a panda bear to a butterfly, each spread features text and die cuts which hint at the animal’s identity, until finally it is revealed by lifting the flap! Composed of 100% recycled material, this playful and interactive new title is both entertaining and educational!
This book is recommended for ages 2-5.

Last, but certainly not least, I was sent My First Garden by Wendy Lewison. This was my favorite out of the three, and I believe it was Isabella’s favorite, too! But not because of what was inside. She adored being able to carry this book around by the handle. Isabella acted as if it were a real basket!
Come along with a mother and daughter as they dig up soil, plant a flower bed, and water the seeds to make their very first garden. Together they watch the colorful vegetables grow, grow, grow! This book teaches a first concept of colors as well. The book has a handle die-cut through on every page so kids can take the book with them wherever they go!
This book is recommended for ages 2-5.
