One of the common ailments that babies suffer from is gas pain. Juliana frequently experienced those troublesome gas pains during her first three months of life and still continues to from time to time. Something that I’ve recently discovered that minimizes the occurrences of feeding issues, gas, colic and reflux is the brand new Philips Avent Anti-colic bottle with AirFree vent.
The Philips Avent Anti-colic bottle has been a welcome dream (and has welcomed dreams) for the past two weeks that we’ve given it a try. I notice a drastic difference in Juliana’s demeanor when she takes her feedings from this bottle. Instead of being restless and fussy, she’s belting out belly laughs and grins that spread from ear-to-ear. No bubbles enter the nipple, which means less gas enters her tiny tummy! Even when I dream feed her in a horizontal position in the middle of the night, only formula stays in the nipple due to the AirFree vent.
While the minimization of dreadful gas pains is definitely the biggest pro to the Philips Avent Anti-colic bottle, Juliana needs to take to the bottle in order for it to do any good. She is a pretty finicky baby when it comes to trying new bottles. Before switching to Philips Avent bottles, her feedings used to be interrupted due to nipple collapse and having to wait for the nipple to “pop” back up again. She’s now accepted the bottle and actually seems to appreciate that nipple collapse is a thing of the past.
The feature that Dad enjoys the most is that there’s no fuss to preparing and cleaning this bottle. The opening is wide enough so he doesn’t have to worry about spilling formula powder, and since there’s only a few parts, assembling it is a breeze. The AirFree vent rests easily inside of the bottle as one piece, unlike other bottles where the vent would be 3-4 separate pieces.
I think it’s safe to say that we’ll be sticking with the Philips Avent Anti-colic bottles from now on. It makes my mom heart happy seeing my baby happy even after feeding time!
