A heartbeat is something that most take for granted. It’s what we expect to hear a few weeks after our pregnancy tests turn positive.
I never imagined the trials and buckets of tears I had to endure in order to hear my second daughter’s heartbeat.
You see, I am 1 in 8 women who struggle with infertility.
Most of us grew up watching the classic Disney film – Dumbo. Little did I know the impact Dumbo’s mother, Mrs.Jumbo, would have on me decades later. Mrs.Jumbo watched the stork deliver tiny baby elephants to all of the other female elephants. That is, all except for her. She felt forgotten and empty inside.
That is what infertility feels like. I remember the influx of pregnancy announcements during my infertility journey, as well as the overwhelming emotions that accompanied those announcements. I was happy for them, but sad for me. I was bitter at the world and had thoughts like “Why her? Why not me? Have I been forgotten?” Those type of thoughts aren’t healthy, but they were real and honest and mine.
It took a year and a half for the stork to drop off my little Dumbo that’s due at the end of September. I didn’t hear her heartbeat at my first prenatal appointment. My midwife couldn’t even find her (or what would become her) with the sonogram machine. However, she was there. Two weeks later, not only did we see her on the ultrasound screen, but we heard that heartbeat fluttering away. So much relief was felt when I heard that unmistakable heartbeat that resembled horses galloping. There were many points during my infertility journey that I questioned whether or not I would hear another baby’s heartbeat. I’m beyond thankful to have heard my baby girl’s heartbeat that day and over the course of these past eight months.
When I was given the chance to review My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear, I knew in my heart what the right choice in animal would be for my baby.
An elephant, of course.
My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear gives expecting moms the opportunity to record their baby’s heartbeat for Mommy and Baby to squeeze and hear over and and over again. Standing at 15″, this vintage elephant stuffed animal made with fluffy fabric and poly fiber fill is the perfect size for your little one to grow up with and cherish for a lifetime. I couldn’t believe how incredibly soft this adorable elephant stuffed animal was! It will definitely become a snuggle-time favorite, I can tell!
Recording baby’s heartbeat is super simple. All you have to do is remove the plastic tab from the heart-shaped recorder and flip the switch to “R”. You’ll know it’s recording when you see a red light turn on. After you’re done recording baby’s perfect heartbeat, flip the switch to “P” and place a piece of tape on the switch. You can then put the heart into the designated back pocket and secure shut with the velcro closure.
My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear makes a priceless pregnancy keepsake that you can pass on to baby for them to cuddle and soothe themselves with. In addition, it would make a wonderful baby shower gift that Mommy-to-Be will be thankful to have!
You can purchase your very own My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear stuffed animal for $34.99-$39.99 via their website. They can also be found at many 3D/4D ultrasound studios!
