When you have an avid reader on your hands, you can never have enough books in the house. Our bookcase is stuffed full of picture books, beginner reading books and chapter books. It’s so great having such a wide array of books to fill our personal home library. My 7-year old is just now starting to read chapter books, while my 2-month old loves staring at the pages inside colorful picture books.
We were recently sent a few books from Disney Publishing Worldwide for my kids to read, and it’s safe to say that they now have a permanent residence on our bookshelf.
The first book she opened up and read out loud with me next to her was Beatrice Zinker, Upside Down Thinker. This endearing book was right up my daughter’s alley, as she could relate to Beatrice Zinker on multiple occasions throughout. It was easy for her to read, while also challenging her to sound out new words that she hadn’t come across before. This was the perfect introduction to chapter books, and we can’t wait to read the other three books from the Beatrice Zinker series!
The other chapter book that Bella received was Waylon! Even More Awesome. This was actually her favorite out of the two. She loves stories involving animals, and this story is about Waylon and his friend Baxter saving a dog infectiously called ‘Dumpster Eddy’ from doggy prison. Bella was on the edge of her seat (and fingertips) over what would happen next in the story. As a parent, I appreciate the lessons this story taught – like unrelenting loyalty, friendship and teamwork.
“Papillon Goes to the Vet is the second book in this whimsically charming picture book series. With lively mixed-media illustrations, Kang takes readers on the journey that every fluffy kitty must make when his ability to float drops and the hiccups won’t stop! The encouraging ending will inspire many giggles, and perhaps a kitty hug or two!”
I make it habit of reading to my baby every single night before laying her down to sleep. I know she’s only 2 months old, but I like to think that she looks forward to this part of her routine the most! She loves browsing and staring at all of the adorable illustrations in Papillon Goes to the Vet.
“When a series of animals come knocking at the door seeking a warm place to sleep, there’s always room for one more! William’s Winter Nap is the perfect read-aloud for a cold winter night. Ashman’s playful rhymes, paired with Groenink’s irresistible animal illustrations, will have young readers cuddling up to this book with their favorite stuffed animals at bedtime.”
