Move over mermaids and unicorns. Robots are soon to be all the rage! We’ve been in heavy robot mode this past week with our educational play. In our previous post, we practiced our memorization skills with the MemoRobots Memory Game from The Purple Cow. It was such a fun time, and we loved the colorful artwork on each game piece!
Next on our robot adventure, we tested out the Design & Drill Robot from Educational Insights!
The Design & Drill Robot is recommended for ages 3-6, but my 7-year old played with it marvelously, too! She likes to use tools, so when she saw it came with a kid-friendly screwdriver, she was ready to dive in to this activity and drill away!
It comes with 15 bolts in red, blue, green and grey, along with a sheet of stickers that your little engineer can use to further design their very own 8″ robot.
Bella diligently and independently worked on her robot, drilling each bolt into a designated hole with precision. She was able to use the screwdriver easily, thanks to the large handle that’s made for small hands to grip. At first, she experienced a bit of trouble keeping the bolt in the hole while she was screwing, but once she got the hang of it, it was smooth sailing from then on out! This robot definitely aids in developing problem solving skills.
Bella used this opportunity to implement her knowledge of patterns and matching to design the “perfect” robot…just for her. She wanted all of the like colors to be grouped together or to be symmetrical.
After she completed drilling all of the bolts, it was time to dazzle her little robot with stickers to make it look more like a robot with circuits and more. I think it gave him a bit of personality!
Once she was done fully decorating her robot, she placed him on her nightstand so he could double as bedroom decor AND as a buddy. 🙂
