Bella and I are pretty crafty. So crafty than in lieu of sports that she is just not interested in, our weekends consist of doing arts and crafts galore. While most of the time I rely on objects like paper plates or popsicle sticks or toilet paper rolls, I do enjoy introducing actual kits and stations to my daughter. I was recently sent the Cutie Stix Cut & Create Station, along with a few refill packs, and once my daughter set eyes on the box, she couldn’t wait to design her own bracelets, necklaces and more!

The Cutie Stix Cut & Create Station is recommended for ages 6 and up, so this is right up my 7 year old’s alley. She loves jewelry, and she loves being artsy!

Here’s what is included: a display unit, a cutting unit, a coring unit, a threader, 4 Mighty Stix, 14 Cutie Stix, 6 Teeny Stix, a Stix wand, 2 cutting frames, 2 spools of thread, 8 jewelry clasps, adhesive strips for the Teeny Stix and 24 connectors.

I recommend organizing all of your Stix into the display unit before any jewelry making occurs. This keeps everything tidy and prevents everything becoming a confusing mess. Bella was able to view all of the Stix displayed and select which one she wanted to cut and core accordingly. In the little drawer at the bottom, you can store clasp connectors and figure connectors.

This is an activity that you can walk through the directions with your kids, and they will get the gist of it and be able to do it all by themselves, which is especially useful if you have more than one child or a sleepover full of kids who are creating. Since Bella is my one and only until September, I kept her company and raved about all of her creations.

To begin creating jewelry, decide whether you want to use the Cutie Stix or the Mighty Stix. If you’re wanting to cut the Cutie Stix, then you’re going to need the appropriate cutting frame. The Cut & Create Station comes with two cutting frames. The one with the smaller opening is for the Teeny Stix, and the one with the larger opening is for the Cutie Stix. Mighty Stix do not need a cutting frame at all.

Insert the cutting frame into the designated side and put in the desired Cutie Stix. To push it all the way through to the center, use the Stix Wand until it stops.

Bella’s favorite step was pushing down to cut each Stix and using the Stix Wand to wiggle the Stix further into the center after each cut.

She spent a good hour cutting Cutie Stix and Mighty Stix galore, making sure to show off all of her new cuts to me and Dennis.

After you’re done cutting, it’s time to core! Just place the Stix cut into the coring container and insert it into the coring unit. You can choose to either core it through the middle or through the side.

Now it’s time to complete the jewelry making process! Unravel the spool of thread until there’s enough to go around a child’s wrist or neck.

Have your child place the cored Stix onto the threader in the order they like, attach the jewelry clasp and double knot at one end. Once that is done, thread through the threader tube, grab the cut nearest to the base of the threader and pull the thread from the threader tube. Attach another jewelry clasp and double knot again, and voila! Your kid now have a funky, spectacular, and oh so cool bracelet!
