Reading has always been a favorite thing to do with my daughter. It’s our special bonding time together where we settle down. I received Cooper and Me to review, and Isabella was yanking on my leg begging for me to read it to her. What I love most is that this book is illustrated by an 11-year old, Alexa Peters, and co-written by her mother, Monique Peters. The book was inspired by Alexa’s own experiences with her first day of school. Alexa desired to give back to others through her wonderful art. She started to draw at a very young age by illustrating stories about her day-to-day experiences.
The little girl in the book is very nervous and anxious about her first day of school. I remember when I was younger, and I would be excited yet anxious about each and every school year. Even with college, I’m so nervous! I wonder if the teacher/professor is strict, if the other students are nice, etc.
She doesn’t want to leave her house without her beloved pet – Cooper, who is a dog. Her mother finds the perfect solution to her problem by creating a small replica of Cooper that she can take to school with her. The moral of the story is about overcoming separation anxiety and trying new things. You’ll never know how you’ll like it until you give it a try!
Isabella kept pointing to the illustrations in awe. She was so in love with this book, that she’s grabbed the book every night asking me to read it to her!
I also received Cooper and Me and the Winter Adventure. This book is also written by Monique and Alexa Peters. I adore this book for teaching kids the importance of making good decisions. This book includes the following features: a special memory creation, life lesson, connections and learning together. In fond memory of Marc Lustgarten and to honor him, $1 of every Winter Adventure book sold at events and at on our website through February 2012, will be donated to the Lustgarten Foundation
