Breaking the TTC (Trying to Conceive) Code


When you’re first entering the world of trying to conceive (TTC) and even pregnancy you will see acronyms/abbreviations for a lot of words. Some are pretty self-explanatory, like OB/GYN. Some you’ll have to do a Google search…or stumble across this page! I even included some of the family acronyms.


2WW: Two Week Wait (14 days after ovulation)

AF: Aunt Flo (period)

AI: Artificial Insemination

BBs: Breasts/Boobs

BBT: Basal Body Temperature (this is the one I use)

BC: Birth Control

BCP: Birth Control Pills

BD: Baby Dance (sex)

BD: Baby Dust (good thoughts in hopes of getting pregnant)

BFN: Big Fat Negative (negative pregnancy test)

BFP: Big Fat Positive (positive pregnancy test)

BIL: Brother-in-law

BM: Breastmilk

BPM: Beats per Minute

C#: Cycle Number (# of cycles you’ve been TTC)

CB: Clear Blue (pregnancy test)

CD: Cycle Day (First day of your period starts CD1. It starts over when you start your period again.)

CM: Cervical Mucus

CP: Cervical Position

D&C: Dilate and Curettage

DD: Dear Daughter

DH: Dear Husband

DS: Dear Son

DPO: Days Past Ovulation

DTD: Doing the Dance/Deed (sex)

EDD: Estimated Due Date

EPO: Evening Primrose Oil

EPT: Early Pregnancy Test

EVAP: Evaporation Line (on a pregnancy test)

EWCM: Egg White Cervical Mucus (most fertile)

FF: Fertility Friend (app)

FIL: Father-in-Law

FMU: First Morning Urine

FRER: First Response Early Result (pregnancy test)

FX: Fingers Crossed

HB: Heartbeat

HCG: Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (pregnancy hormone)

HEDD: Hopeful Estimated Due Date

HPT: Home Pregancy Test

IB: Implantation Bleeding

IUD: Intrauterine Device

IUI: Intrauterine Insemination

IVF: In Vitro Fertilization

LH: Luteinizing Hormone

LMP: Last Menstrual Period

LO: Little One

LP: Luteal Phase

MC: Miscarriage

MIL: Mother-in-Law

MMC: Missed Miscarriage

MS: Morning Sickness

NTNP: Not Trying, Not Preventing (to conceive)

O: Ovulation

OB/GYN: Obstetrician/Gynecologist

OPK: Ovulation Predictor Kit

PG: Pregnant/pregnancy

PNV: Prenatal Vitamins (I use these)

POAS: Pee on a Stick (pregnancy test)

SIL: Sister-in-Law

TTC: Trying to Conceive

TTP: Trying to Prevent

U/S: Ultrasound

VFP: Very Faint Positive
